    Sebbene l’incontrastato regno delle ‘Pet Spa’ siano gli States, il fenomeno sta sbarcando anche in Italia, mietendo successi sempre più notevoli.     Scendendo lo stivale possiamo incontrare La Vecchia Fattorina, una beauty farm dislocata a Roma che contempla uno staff professionale e formatissimo. Parrucchiere, estetiste e addirittura insegnanti yoga sono a disposizione degli amici felini e dei cagnolini, assieme ad uno specialista veterinario che forse rappresenta la figura più canonica all’interno della struttura. Gettonatissimo è Lo Chalet di San Giovanni Teatino in provincia di Chieti. Sebbene si tratti di una struttura prettamente dedicata alla riabilitazione da traumi, il centro offre idroterapia, massoterapia e permette di rinnovare completamente il look degli amici a quattro zampe.

    Eccessi? Lusso sfrenato? Sicuramente sì, in quanto questi centri offrono dei servizi specifici ad un costo molto elevato. Da un lato questi trattamenti sono assolutamente votati alla salute e all’estetica degli animali e non contemplano episodi di fanatismo come l’ultima notizia che abbiamo dovuto sorbirci in diretta dalla Russia. Il video ha spopolato sul web e ha visto protagonisti un gatto trasformato in ape e un cane in dragone. Sebbene la proprietaria del centro abbia assicurato che i colori usati siano atossici e sicuri per gli animali verrebbe da invitare i padroni a comprarsi un alveare oppure ad andare sull’isola di Komodo, dove si trovano gli unici draghi esistenti sulla terra. Il rispetto per gli animali si manifesta con gesti quotidiani, nel fornire loro un’alimentazione sana e nel dedicare tutto l’affetto e il tempo che possiamo. Tutto il resto è un surplus, che le persone abbienti possono permettersi e che rappresenta sicuramente un grande trend del nostro presente.

  • Il diritto alla vita per i gatti malati di Felv

    Sfogliamo ogni giorno i normali giornali cartacei o i magazine online, e le notizie che riguardano gli animali sono sempre più numerose e spesso ci riportano di fatti raccapriccianti, maltrattamenti o peggio, notizie che noi che amiamo e rispettiamo gli animali non vorremmo mai leggere. Ma come in tutte le cose della vita c’è per fortuna un risvolto positivo, fulgido di amore profondo per la vita, e per quegli esseri meravigliosi che sanno dare moltissimo. Qui vi raccontiamo di una bella storia di gatti, cosi ricca di buone intenzioni che pare quasi una fiaba, invece è una storia vera.

     

    Una storia di sacrifici fatti con il cuore da Maria Torero, un infermiera peruviana che durante le ore di lavoro si prende cura amorevolmente di malati umani e poi a casa continua la sua opera con dedizione, ma per un numeroso gruppo di gatti. Maria è la fautrice di un progetto meraviglioso che si chiama “La Casita Gatuna” una casa di riposo per gatti malati di Felv, la leucemia felina, spesso questi gatti vengono abbandonati; sono malati terminali che in seguito anche se ricoverati nei gattili nessuno vuole adottare. Maria ha pensato a loro, ai loro bisogni, alla sofferenza, alla malinconia dell’abbandono o alla precarietà del randagismo e ha creato per loro una casa.

     

    Una casa dove sono una grande famiglia accomunata dalla disgrazia di una malattia che non perdona ma anche da un amore infinito che li lega come un sottile ma fortissimo filo d’argento; un amore che rende capace Maria di occuparsi di 175 gatti a cui da cibo, medicine, cure, un tetto e tanto affetto, molti di loro soffrono anche di altre malattie e questa donna fortissima fa fronte a tutto con l’aiuto dei tre figli e delle donazioni. I gatti di Maria sono sereni, sonnecchiano e mangiano, circondati dal calore di un ambiente pensato per loro, deliziosi nelle tutine che indossano, tutte differenti, perchè ognuno di loro ha la sua personalità.

     

    Maria vuole che i suoi gatti vivano felici tutti i giorni che gli restano, e allevia ogni loro disturbo con pillole, iniezioni e coccole, regala a piene mani una migliore qualità della vita a questi gatti sfortunati in attesa che volino sul ponte dell’arcobaleno. Maria ci racconta che ha iniziato a soccorrere gli animali quando ha visto la cattiveria della gente al mercato, gente arida che li cacciava via lanciandogli acqua calda o candeggina: “Ho cominciato quando ha visto al mercato i venditori lanciare candeggina o acqua bollente sui gatti, trattarli come se fossero spazzatura. Non si fermavano a pensare che un animale ha sentimenti. Che soffre e prova dolore, freddo e fame, come noi”.      “The cat sits where the woman was sitting” is an ancient Latin proverb that can explain how historically the relationship between woman and cat is conceived. After all, many adjectives typical of the cat, such as sinuous, feline and unpredictable are used to describe the female universe.

    The relationship between women and cat probably shows some differences traits compared to the male approach, which are often more stimulated to own a dog. Men who own a cat are rare, while the number of women who have a cat is pretty high.

    It is interesting to note what the famous English zoologist Desmond Morris says on the matter, author of several books among which the essay “Catwatching”, which has become a reference point for cat lovers. Morris has a rather bizarre idea on the subject but with a certain amount of truth.

    First of all, he states that cats certainly find the female voice more pleasant than the male one, as it is more acute and therefore closer to the sounds they make. This fact could explain why kittens often turn around only when they hear a female voice calling them and not a males one. 

    Another hypothesis, perhaps more bizarre, is based on the iron memory of the cat. The feline has a really good memory and is able to escape dangerous situations really quickly. As we all know, cats do not like to go to the vet, both for the task of traveling in a cage and for the care they absolutely do not want to receive. Considering that many vets are male, Morris associates the special relationship between women and cats with this factor, as felines perceive it as harmless. Now that the profession has also opened up to the world of women, it will be interesting to note the developments of Morris’s studies and understand if this trait can still be considered relevant.

    Let’s take a small step back in time, when it was a symbol of witchcraft and love for the magical arts for a woman to own a cat. Although the time jump spans many centuries, we cannot forget the beliefs that accompanied the period of the Inquisition that led to the stake hundreds of innocent women. At that time, the black kittens were crossed with a sign in the tummy, to prevent them from turning into witches when they reached the seventh year of age. At the same time, popular belief was that certain women turned into cats during the night to drink the blood of cattle.     Going back to the present day, it is interesting to understand the analysis carried out by the Waltham Center for Pet Nutrition, which found out that cats bond with humans and especially women not only to obtain food. The research was published in the authoritative journal Behavioral Processes and is committed to uncover the dynamics and alchemy that regulate the relationship between cats and humans. Beyond the pure nourishment factor, the experiment conducted found that women are simply more predisposed to cuddle and fill felines with attention.

    The result? Cats return the affection received in their own way, jumping on their knees, lovingly licking the hands and face of women and thus establishing a good relationship of mutual exchange. The key to understanding the relationship between cat and woman probably lies in the attention that females reserve for these delightful animals, which is certainly greater than males. The cats have chosen to reciprocate and therefore to start a relationship of mutual love that has been perpetuated since the dawn of time.

  • The pet therapy, an alternative therapy with animals

    There are many cases in Italy (and in the world) of people who rely on pet therapy to promote the healing process. This discipline provides the presence of animals, mainly dogs, to carry out physiotherapy processes or treatments and management of particular psycho-emotional pathologies.

    Our four-legged friends have a sensitivity that goes beyond the limits of human understanding, as their affection and devotion are truly unexpected! The dog’s total devotion to its owner must be investigated in its origin, as he elects the pack leader and follows him in all respects. We become real leaders for them. From these notions, we can understand how powerful the love that our four-legged friends have for us. Therefore, they have a great healing potential for pet therapy.

    It is incredible how much affection dogs can give us during illnesses. This is the case of patients admitted to the oncology department of the Massa Carrara hospital. In this place, the first pet therapy project in Italy was activated, where dogs are in contact with patients at particular times of the day. This prodigious project is called “A Paw to Therapies”. It requires dogs with disinfected fur and with a complete certificate to accompany patients for a few hours during the chemotherapy session.

    The results are surprising, many people who are alone during therapy sessions find it extremely pleasant all of a sudden. Labradors, cubs and delightful puppies snuggle at the patients’ feet and keep them company for the entire duration of the therapeutic session. The benefits translate into a greater chance of recovery for patients, as the good mood that dogs spread helps patients face the disease with more serenity and courage.

    The head of the structure, Dr. Mambrini, is convinced that alternative therapies can be very successful for the healing process or, at least, make it happier and less harsh. To this end, he organizes concerts, including famous artists, art shows, singing and theater sessions and always hopes to be able to subject patients to chemotherapy in the open air, taking advantage of the hospital’s green spaces.

    Regarding the introduction of four-legged friends, the head physician said “We started with six other Italian hospitals with the Day Hospital department: we followed 90 cancer patients in contact with dogs for six months and compared them with 90 other patients without pet therapy “.

    Regarding the results and benefits for patients, the luminary says: “We measured the vital signs of pressure, pulse and temperature. The psychological ones of apprehension, anxiety and depression. Finally, also the symptoms of nausea, vomiting and pain. The patients of the pet therapy had vomited less, had regained their natural face colour and forgot depression. Others even returned at the end of chemo session to meet the dogs again.     Finally, we can witness a beautiful all-Italian experience, as this therapy is still not very well known around the world. Beyond the enormous improvements that pet therapy brings to patients, we must never forget its positive effect on mood, which very often represents the key to victory against tremendous and apparently invincible diseases.

  • La peritonite nel cane e nel gatto

    La peritonite è una delle malattie che può colpire i cani o i gatti tra le più urgenti, che può diventare letale se non curata tempestivamente.

    Spesso ne sentiamo parlare a proposito di esseri umani, generalmente come complicanza dell’appendicite che può diventare mortale; cani e gatti non hanno l’appendice, ma ci sono tutta una serie di altre cause che possono portare esattamente alla stessa conseguenza.

    È importante per il padrone conoscerla e saperne riconoscere i sintomi, perché nel caso in cui l’animale ne fosse affetto l’intervento deve essere tempestivo.

    NB: in questo articolo non parleremo di FIP o Peritonite Infettiva del Gatto, una malattia infettiva virale a cui dedichiamo una scheda apposita.

    Che cos’è

    La peritonite, semplicemente, è l’infiammazione del peritoneo. Semplice da capire se sappiamo cos’è, precisamente, il peritoneo.

    Immaginate di traslocare e di mettere tutti i soprammobili di vetro che avete in casa in uno scatolone. Per evitare che si rompano metto nello scatolone un foglio di plastica per imballaggi che ricopre completamente la parte interna dello scatolone (quello con le bolle che “scoppiettano”). Poi, prima di mettere ogni soprammobile, lo avvolgo a sua volta nella plastica per imballaggi. In questo modo nessun soprammobile tocca mai gli altri soprammobili o lo scatolone.

    Se nomino i soprammobili “fegato”, “stomaco”, “vescica”, insomma con i nomi di tutti gli organi che si trovano in addome, il peritoneo è lo spazio che rimane tra un foglio di plastica da imballaggi e l’altro. Nel caso dello scatolone è pieno di aria, nell’organismo degli animali di liquido (non molto).

    Immaginiamo di chiudere lo scatolone, così che il nostro peritoneo non avrà alcun contatto con l’ambiente esterno. Se un organo “fuori” dallo scatolone (che è la cavità addominale) si infetta, non avremo conseguenze nel peritoneo. Se un soprammobile (un organo) si infetta non avremo comunque problemi nel peritoneo perché è circondato dalla plastica per imballaggi. Se un organo si infetta così tanto da perforare la plastica l’infezione si propagherà nello spazio tra gli organi, il peritoneo appunto, che dovrebbe rimanere sterile per tutta la vita. Questa è la peritonite.

    Le cause

    Le cause possono essere le più varie, e dipendono sempre dalla rottura di un organo o da una perforazione esterna che ha “bucato” la nostra plastica da imballaggi.

    Può essere dovuta ad una perforazione dell’intestino o dello stomaco perché l’animale ha mangiato un giocattolo o un pezzo di ferro che ha fatto danni; può essere dovuta ad una pancreatite, una gravissima infiammazione del pancreas che si auto-digerisce; può anche essere dovuta ad una ferita piuttosto profonda che ha messo in contatto l’ambiente esterno con il peritoneo, come una coltellata piuttosto profonda in addome; può essere dovuto alla rottura della vescica, generalmente conseguenza di un incidente; qualsiasi cosa, insomma, metta il peritoneo in contatto con qualcos’altro.

    Il problema è che il peritoneo è sterile, ha solamente pochi ml di liquido puro che “trasuda” dai vasi sanguigni che attraversano la cavità addominale. Anche un foro piccolo piccolo, in questo modo, può far entrare dei batteri nella cavità che è praticamente priva di difese. I batteri iniziano a moltiplicarsi in modo del tutto in controllato, ed è qui che arriva il dolore ma anche la pericolosità della malattia, perché così tanti batteri possono tranquillamente infettare tutto l’organismo.

     

    I sintomi

    Tralasciando il caso dell’incidente, in cui ci saranno anche altri problemi e la peritonite verrà diagnosticata direttamente dal veterinario, nei casi più subdoli come quello dell’ingestione di un giocattolo o della pancreatite dobbiamo saper riconoscere i sintomi.

    Per prima cosa, l’animale sarà abbattuto e potrebbe presentare febbre, insomma vediamo che non sta bene. Poi avrà fortissimo dolore addominale, che lo indurrà a mettersi in posizione “a sfinge” per sentire meno dolore possibile. Sarà difficile avvicinarci e toccargli la pancia, ma se riusciremo vedremo che il cane o il gatto, anche ad una pressione leggerissima, guairà o miagolerà perché ha dolori lancinanti.

    A seconda delle cause possiamo avere anche vomito, ma non è una componente fondamentale del problema.

    Il trattamento

    Purtroppo si tratta di uno di quei casi in cui, a parte correre dal veterinario più vicino, non possiamo fare molto.

    Sarà poi il medico a stabilire la presenza di peritonite e le cause che la determinano; in certi casi, come la perforazione dell’intestino, l’animale dovrà essere sottoposto ad un intervento chirurgico per sistemare le cose.

    In ogni caso verrà eseguita un’analisi del liquido del peritoneo per capire cosa, di preciso, ci sia dentro, quindi verrà effettuato un lavaggio immettendo con una siringa del liquido sterile e prelevando il liquido “sporco”.

    Verrà poi prescritta una terapia antibiotica apposita e verranno reintegrati i liquidi persi grazie alle flebo, così da evitare il peggio e portare il nostro amico ad una ripresa totale dopo qualche tempo.

    Many times humans think that cats are similar to dogs, so they expect the same devotion and the same amount of affection. This will never be possible, as cats have a completely different natural disposition, which leads them to behave in a totally different way. We sometimes treat our cats as if they were dogs and expect them to be as cuddly as we are all the time.

    Hence, human beings tend to fill kittens with cuddles and want their presence to be constant.

    This is not fair and can be counterproductive for our feline friends. An interesting study by John Bradshaw, director of the anthropology department at the University of Bristol, revealed that modern cats are very stressed compared to their ancestors, as owners expect felines to live in confined spaces and cuddle for hours like they would do with a dog puppy.

    The cat is an absolutely free animal, which needs large natural spaces to live a happy existence. The cat loves to climb trees, hunt small animals and run after butterflies. Unlike the dog, it needs contact with the earth. In fact, a cat can lie for hours on a haystack or on a nice fresh lawn. Bradshaw himself admits that giving too much attention to the cat is counterproductive and can give rise to stress diseases such as cystitis and dermatitis, which are increasing in the feline world.

    The stressed cat licks itself continuously in certain points of the body, tends to isolate itself and to mark the territory urinating everywhere, even if sterilized. These behaviours are not symptomatic of a happy life. Cat owners must understand their pets actual needs which are freedom and a lot of autonomous space. Only by doing this, can they live peacefully, engage in favourite activities and enjoy excellent health.

    Last but not least, lets analyze the relationship with technology. Do we think cats loves selfies? Well, we are wrong. Not only does the cat hate the electromagnetic waves of multimedia devices, but it also can’t stand lights that are too strong such as flashes.

    According to experts, the massive communication regarding kittens has led to a misunderstanding of its true nature in the new generation.

    It is important that children are educated and shown how to treat cats from a young age so they can fully understand their needs. Once we have done this, coexistence can be perfect and kittens can show all their affection. Obviously in their own special way.

    It is essential for us to focus on other more important aspects in our pet, such as proper nutrition and plenty of outdoor space available to move and play. We must remember that although the cat has undergone an incredible evolution over the centuries, its nature as a feline will stay forever!

  • Pet Therapy at Niguarda hospital in Milan: Happy and Angel, ten years of pure love

    If we speak of Pet Therapy, it is necessary to mention the Niguarda Hospital in Milan. In this large and important Milanese hospital there is the Spinal Unit; a particular department where very special doctors work. We refer to them as pets.

    Their names are Happy and Angel, and they deal with physiotherapy. They are two magnificent honey and chocolate coloured Labradors. Two experienced human pet therapists lead these two exceptional animal doctors. The unusual medical team, thanks to an incredible synergy, records surprising results.

    In this medical unit, patients in wheelchairs wait in the gym every day for the arrival of the two “doctors”, who have assisted their patients for 10 years now. Happy and Angel are accompanied by Patrizia Spada, the responsible pet therapist of the Dog4Life Association, as well as Alessandra De Fronzo with the Belgian shepherd malinois Alinghi and Enzo Panelli, the first pet therapist in a wheelchair with his sweet black Labrador.

    This unique group of therapists take care with constancy and love of the numerous victims of motor vehicle or sports accidents as well as accidents in the workplace. The physiotherapy applied aims to restore the mobility of the trunk and limbs. The exercises that benefit all patients are simple, games which provide great help, day after day, to patients with mobility problems.

    They games range from the launch of the ball to that of the Frisbee; to the placement on the ground of treats hidden under overturned cups, and last but very important the paragility path. Each exercise is meticulously designed to reactivate the muscle groups and strengthen them with the interaction of perfectly trained, highly intelligent dogs which are able to create a relaxed atmosphere of affection.

    The physiotherapist of the ward Liliana Panigata explained: “This is an integrative therapy that accompanies the regular medical courses, but has the advantage of promoting socialization and creating a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The dog, with its spontaneity, communicates with them without prejudice, without filters and without seeing the disability in those in front of them. In addition, the patient gradually acquires self-esteem and autonomy in learning how to lead and give commands to an animal. Fatigue becomes pleasure and sweetness dissolves any resistance”.

    However, this is not the only department where we engage trained animals in daily exercises and rehabilitation therapies. This wonderful practice is spreading more and more, with great benefits for immobilized people. Pet Therapy also bears witness and justice to all animals, underlining their importance and the great wealth of fidelity and love that they know how to give in exchange for just a simple caress…

Here we tell you about a beautiful story about cats, so full of good intentions that it almost seems like a fairy tale, but it is actually a true story.

    A story of sacrifices made with the heart by Maria Torero, a Peruvian nurse who lovingly takes care of sick people during her working hours and then continues her work at home with dedication, but for a large group of cats. Maria is the creator and leader of a wonderful project called “La Casita Gatuna”; a rest home for cats suffering from Felv which is feline leukaemia. These cats are often abandoned and are terminally ill. Nobody really wants to adopt them. Maria thought of them and took care of their needs, their suffering, the melancholy of abandonment and therefore created a home for them.

    She lives with a very big family but they are all united by the misfortune of an unforgiving disease but also by an infinite love that binds them like a thin but very strong silver thread. A love that enables Maria to take care of 175 cats to whom she gives food, medicine, care, a roof and a lot of affection. Many of them also suffer from other diseases and this very strong woman copes with everything with the help of her three children and of donations. Maria’s cats are serene; they doze and eat and they are surrounded by the warmth of an environment designed especially for them.

    Maria wants her cats to live happily all the days they has left on earth, and relieves all their ailments with pills, injections and cuddles, giving a better quality of life. Maria tells us that she started rescuing animals when she saw the wickedness of the people at the market, arid people who chased them away by throwing hot water or bleach at them: “I started when I saw the vendors throw bleach or boiling water at cats in the market, treating them as if they were garbage”.

  • Guida pratica al taglio delle unghie nel gatto

    Per i gatti che vivono in casa è molto importante avere la possibilità di affilarsi ed accorciare le proprie unghie. In natura, infatti, i felini riescono a mantenere la giusta lunghezza dei propri artigli semplicemente correndo su superfici ruvide ed arrampicandosi sugli alberi. Solo in questo modo potranno difendersi da eventuali attacchi da parte di altri animali, e soprattutto saranno in grado di cacciare le prede con degli artigli ben affilati.

    È chiaro che non tutti i gatti domestici hanno la possibilità di scorrazzare liberi in giardino. E cosa potrà mai fare un gatto per ricreare nella propria casa un ambiente stimolante? Naturalmente approfitterà dei vostri mobili.

    Chi possiede un gatto sa bene di cosa stiamo parlando. Divani scorticati, tappezzeria bucata, ceste di vimini distrutte, è questo lo scenario tipico di una casa abitata da almeno un gatto. Se poi il numero degli inquilini a quattro zampe aumenta, la situazione sarà molto probabilmente ancora più evidente. I gatti, infatti, si “fanno le unghie” anche per marcare il proprio territorio.

    Per riuscire a risolvere questo problema abbastanza fastidioso, vi basterà mettere in pratica dei semplici accorgimenti.

    Per prima cosa, sarà necessario dare una “spuntatina” alle unghie del vostro gatto. Durante le normali visite di controllo dal veterinario, chiedete a lui di farlo, osservando attentamente tutti i procedimenti. I più temerari, quindi, potranno ripetere l’operazione da soli a casa, una volta che le unghie saranno ricresciute.

    Ma come si fa a tagliare le unghie al gatto?

    Il gatto è un animale poco collaborativo, soprattutto se non è abituato ad alcuni gesti. Per questo, se avete appena adottato un gattino, è proprio questo il momento giusto per cominciare a fargli prendere confidenza con il taglio delle unghie.

    Quando il gatto è rilassato, avvicinatevi con cautela e mostrategli il tagliaunghie. Lasciate che lo annusi, lo esamini e capisca di che razza di diavoleria si tratti. Allo stesso modo, sarà importante maneggiare spesso le zampe del gattino. Durante la seduta abituale di coccole, accarezzategli anche le zampe, premendo sui cuscinetti finché non sarà visibile l’unghia.

    Solo così il gatto non scapperà via impaurito non appena vi vedrà con uno strano aggeggio in mano e l’espressione da film dell’orrore.

    Se ormai il vostro gatto è adulto, e volete sperimentare per la prima volta il taglio delle unghie, probabilmente vi servirà qualche tentativo in più.

    Almeno per le prime volte, cercate qualcuno che tenga fermo il gatto mentre voi procedete al taglio. Ricordate che il gatto non sopporta nella maniera più assoluta sentirsi costretto, quindi dovrete avere una presa salda, senza esagerare. In pratica, il gatto dovrà avere la sensazione che interverrete non appena proverà a muoversi, senza però sentire la pressione delle vostre mani sul proprio corpo.

    Se il vostro amico proprio non vuole saperne di restare fermo, e tenta più volte di mordervi o graffiarvi, recuperate un lenzuolo ed avvolgetelo intorno al corpo dell’animale, includendo naturalmente anche una delle due zampe. In questo modo potrete agire sulle unghie di una zampa senza che sfoderi gli artigli dell’altra.

    Una volta che il vostro gatto si sarà tranquillizzato, prendetegli una zampa all’altezza dei polpastrelli. Se non vedete ancora le unghie, non fate strane supposizioni. Gli artigli del gatto, infatti, sono retrattili, il che vuol dire che normalmente sono nascosti tra un polpastrello e l’altro, per essere sfoderati all’occorrenza.

    Per riuscire a fargli tirare fuori le unghie, premete leggermente sul polpastrello e mantenete questa posizione finché non avrete terminato.

    In commercio esistono vari tipi di tagliaunghie. Quello migliore deve riuscire ad assicurare un taglio rapido e preciso, consentendo però al proprietario di fermarsi in tempo se l’animale avverte dolore. In alternativa, potete anche utilizzare un comune tronchesino per pedicure e manicure.

    Orientate lo sguardo lateralmente all’unghia, per poter capire dove tagliare. Esaminatela bene alla luce ed individuate tutte le caratteristiche importanti.

    L’unghia viene considerata lunga se termina con un piccolo uncino. A partire dall’attaccatura, potrete notare la presenza di una piccola zona centrale a forma di cono, di colore rosa chiaro. Bene, quella è proprio l’area che dovrete assolutamente evitare, perché ricca di vasi sanguigni e nervi. Se doveste accidentalmente tagliare l’unghia in questo punto, provocherete un forte dolore ed un abbondante sanguinamento.

    Quella che va tagliata è solo la parte bianca dell’unghia, proprio come faremmo per la nostra manicure. Il tagliaunghie va posizionato in senso leggermente diagonale rispetto alla zampa, ed il taglio deve essere eseguito dal basso verso l’alto, in modo che l’unghia non si sfaldi.

    Se il vostro gatto non ha modo di accorciare la lunghezza delle unghie da solo, il rischio maggiore è che queste possano crescere al punto da incastrarsi nel polpastrello sottostante. L’unghia incarnita non solo provoca dolore ogni volta che il gatto poggia a terra la zampa, ma può anche andare incontro alle infezioni.

    In questi casi difficilmente il gatto si farà manipolare e spesso l’unghia è talmente ispessita che non sapreste da dove iniziare a tagliare.

    Per questo sarà necessario far intervenire il vostro veterinario, che potrà agire tempestivamente per fermare l’eventuale sanguinamento.

     

    Cosa fare se il gatto “si fa le unghie” sui mobili

    Prima di prendervela con lui o di iniziare a prendere in considerazione l’idea di farlo adottare, pensateci bene.

    Il gatto, infatti, ha un estremo bisogno di “farsi le unghie”, e se non ha nessun altro mezzo a disposizione non potrà che utilizzare quello che trova in casa.

    Per questo motivo dovete sempre ammobiliare le vostre case con oggetti specifici per la cura degli artigli di Fuffi, che potrà distruggere senza problemi. Acquistate un “tiragraffi” oppure realizzatene uno voi stessi con dello spago o del cartone.

    Se il gatto ancora non vuole saperne, potreste tentare con degli spray repellenti da spruzzare sui mobili che più attirano il vostro gatto oppure, al contrario, degli spray attrattivi che rendano i “tiragraffi” più interessanti.

    Ricordatevi che spesso i piccoli danni che i nostri amici a quattro zampe fanno in casa, possono essere facilmente risolti con accorgimenti semplici e facili da mettere in pratica.
