Nei nostri articoli diciamo spesso che la prevenzione<\/strong> delle malattie degli animali, cani o gatti che siano, \u00e8 sempre la forma migliore perch\u00e9 i nostri amici non siano soggetti a problematiche anche molto gravi. Certo, questo non significa che dobbiamo tenerli in una gabbia dorata, specialmente i gatti che potrebbero soffrirne anche in modo molto intenso, ma che quando vediamo qualcosa che non va dobbiamo agire quanto prima per evitare che le cose possano peggiorare.<\/p>\n

Il papillomavirus felino \u00e8 un esempio perfetto di malattia che di per s\u00e9 non \u00e8 particolarmente grave, per cui abbiamo tutto il tempo di renderci conto della sua presenza e di agire, ma che se non agiamo pu\u00f2 diventare molto grave perch\u00e9 pu\u00f2 aprire la strada a qualcosa di ben peggiore.<\/p>\n

Che cos\u2019\u00e8<\/h2>\n

Il papillomavirus \u00e8 un virus a DNA piuttosto contagioso, che tuttavia colpisce solamente membri di una sola specie: insomma, quello del gatto non colpisce l\u2019uomo, cos\u00ec come quello dell\u2019uomo (o, meglio, della donna) non colpisce il gatto. Ci sono dubbi sul fatto che la versione bovina possa colpire i gatti, ma \u00e8 talmente difficile che un gatto entri in contatto con una mucca, specie nelle zone urbane, che tralasciamo questa possibilit\u00e0.<\/p>\n

La via di trasmissione pi\u00f9 frequente, ovviamente, \u00e8 quella che va da gatto a gatto. <\/strong>Il virus colpisce la cute, anche se a volte pu\u00f2 posizionarsi in bocca, e chiaramente i gatti che lottano tra loro se lo passano con facilit\u00e0.<\/p>\n

C\u2019\u00e8 da dire che, come virus, non \u00e8 particolarmente aggressivo, perch\u00e9 di solito le lesioni che provoca compaiono quando il gatto \u00e8 colpito da malattie gi\u00e0 debilitanti per conto proprio, come la FIV.<\/p>\n

Che cosa fa<\/h2>\n

L\u2019azione del virus \u00e8 quella di infettare le cellule della cute, quindi la pelle, e lo fa inducendo le stesse a moltiplicarsi e crescere. Il risultato \u00e8 molto simile ad un tumore, ma di fatto non lo \u00e8, almeno all\u2019inizio, perch\u00e9 non \u00e8 la cellula che inizia a moltiplicarsi di propria iniziativa, come accade in una neoplasia, ma \u00e8 spinta dal virus. Tuttavia non \u00e8 da escludere che una lesione papillomatosa possa diventare una neoplasia vera e propria, se non trattata.<\/p>\n

Quello che un proprietario vede \u00e8 che accarezzando il gatto, un giorno, si nota un piccolo rigonfiamento. Fin l\u00ec niente di strano, potrebbe semplicemente essere una puntura d\u2019insetto. Se non cresce potrebbe essere una piccola malformazione cutanea, come abbiamo anche noi da qualche parte, nulla di preoccupante.<\/p>\n

Se ci accorgiamo, per\u00f2 che il rigonfiamento cresce <\/strong>come se fosse un alberello, con un \u201ctronco\u201d alla base e una chioma in alto, \u00e8 il caso di consultare un veterinario. Cresce lentamente, per cui non c\u2019\u00e8 bisogno di portare il gatto alle quattro di notte in clinica, ma organizziamoci per portarcelo nel giro di 2-3 giorni.<\/p>\n

Purtroppo l\u2019unico modo per accertarsi che cosa sia precisamente la lesione \u00e8 l\u2019istologia, <\/strong>quindi il tagliare un pezzetto di rigonfiamento, trattarlo ed esaminarlo al microscopio, per cui ci vorr\u00e0 almeno una settimana per avere delle risposte. Se si tratta veramente di papilloma, a questo punto, da proprietari abbiamo varie possibilit\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Come si cura<\/h2>\n

Nonostante il rigonfiamento non crei dolore al gatto, al massimo un po\u2019 di fastidio, \u00e8 da rimuovere sia perch\u00e9 pu\u00f2 diventare una neoplasia, come dicevamo prima, sia perch\u00e9 crescendo troppo pu\u00f2 ulcerarsi, sanguinare, insomma causare dolore anche intenso al gatto.<\/p>\n

Ci sono varie possibilit\u00e0 per la terapia: si pu\u00f2 provare con i farmaci, <\/strong>come l\u2019interferone che limita la moltiplicazione cellulare e impedisce cos\u00ec la crescita; oppure si pu\u00f2 provare con la chirurgia, <\/strong>per cui addormentare il gatto e rimuovere l\u2019escrescenza con il bisturi, anche se in questo caso siamo particolarmente sicuri che il problema, dopo un po\u2019 si ripresenter\u00e0 perch\u00e9 il virus rimane (non si pu\u00f2 eliminare in nessun modo) e la zona \u00e8 stressata dall\u2019intervento chirurgico per cui \u00e8 un ambiente favorevole per lo sviluppo del virus.<\/p>\n

Altre alternative sono la terapia con laser <\/strong>e la criochirurgia, <\/strong>cio\u00e8 tagliare la parte \u201cincriminata\u201d dopo averla congelata, cos\u00ec che il tutto risulti meno irritante per l\u2019organismo e la situazione non si ripresenti (o quantomeno lo faccia meno frequentemente); c\u2019\u00e8 da mettere in conto tuttavia che queste terapie sono piuttosto costose e richiedono diverse sedute.<\/p>\n

Insomma, le possibilit\u00e0 non mancano, e anche se ci fossero delle recidive si pu\u00f2 intervenire di nuovo e garantire una vita normale al gatto praticamente per sempre, visto che non ci sono particolari problematiche legate a questa malattia. Questo \u00e8 vero, per\u00f2, fintanto che facciamo qualcosa, qualsiasi cosa, <\/strong>mentre l\u2019errore pi\u00f9 grande che possiamo fare \u00e8 quello di lasciar perdere tutto e lasciare l\u2019escrescenza l\u00ec dov\u2019\u00e8, dove pu\u00f2 portare grave disagio al gatto e trasformarsi in neoplasia o comunque aprire la strada a malattie infettive ben peggiori di questa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
